Spore

I managed to snag a copy of Spore today (I got the Galactic Edition but you can snag a normal copy on amazon), a new-style game which Will Wright calls a ‘Massively Single-player Online Game’. The game allows you to build, train and advance your creature from a single celled organism to a space-flying weapon-loving civilization.

So what makes this game good? It’s completely original. It allows you to make your creatures, buildings, everything in fact exactly how you want. So far I’m in love, it has all the great hints of comedy you’d expect from Maxis while at the same time having a very good gameplay.

The end of summer ‘08

Posted on September 1st, 2008 in College | Comments

..and I managed to survive my first day at the Hereford Sixth Form college. Didn’t do any lessons sadly, mainly icre-breaking day for students, and a tour of the college. I met some great new people in my enrollment group (some very nice people from Tenbury especially!) and general others around the campus.

Looking forward to starting lessons tommorow. First thing on the list; Further Maths!

Technorati saves the day

Well, maybe not the full day, but perhaps up to lunch. Thanks to Technorati I’ve managed to recover parts of previous blog posts on HappySlapCulture. I’m currently in the process of putting those up that matter most, so hopefully a slight chunk of content should be returning.

Next thing to do: import comments for said posts from IntenseDebate!

Get payed to search!

Posted on August 31st, 2008 in Web Applications | Comments

Scour is a great new search engine that pays you to use it! Sound to good to be true? Well it’s not - no Earn money with Scour!catches, no clauses. Scour launched very recently and is still rather unknown.

Although I said you get paid to use it, it’s not exactly easy. You have to reach 6500 scour points to hit your first $25, but still it’s better than not being paid at all! Scour gets its results from Live Search, Google & Yahoo to maximize it’s accuracy. Being a social-based engine you can vote on if the results were accurate or not meaning over time the engine should surpass the others.

So how do you earn points?

  • Searching (1 point per search)
  • Voting on usefulness (1 point per vote)
  • Commenting on search (1 point per comment)
  • 200 bonus points for signing up here

So what are you waiting for? Get started now.

The King is dead…

Posted on August 30th, 2008 in The Site | Comments

Long live the King! I’ve switched domains that many times now I thought it was time to go for a sensible, stable domain. The site won’t change that much, sadly I’ve lost the content from my previous blog due to my old host (SiteGround) being rather unaccommodating and therefore have to start a-fresh.

For those interested I’m trying out the pipeDream theme created by Dean Robinson which can be downloaded here. I rather like it right now, but we’ll see how it goes. I’m also now hosted with MediaTemple!

Edit: Decided I preferred the ColdBlue theme by WebRevolutionary and made the switch.

Now working at IntenseDebate

In the last month or so I’ve been in talks with the guys over at IntenseDebate about their advertised position for a new software engineer. As of this Wednesday I will be starting remote work on a few projects delegated which I’m very excited about. Check out the site for more information and the blog for the cutting edge.
